Let's Evaluate Our Skin Type

Let’s Evaluate Our Skin Type

What is your skin type?

Dry vs Oily Skin

Resistant vs Sensitive Skin

Pigmented (Blemish-prone) vs Non-Pigmented (Blemish-free, Even-toned ) Skin

Smooth Surface vs Wrinkle-Prone Skin

We can analyse our skin type under these 4 categories and plan our cosmetic habits accordingly.

  1. Dry or Oily Skin:

The upper layers of dry skin lack moisture. When there is a weakening of the skin barrier a large amount of water evaporates, causing the skin to dry and coarse, causes a dull appearance.

Increased sebum production causes oily skin

Mixed Skin: There are two basic types of mixed skin:

1) The type of skin that is oily at certain times of the year and dry at other times: Generally dry in winter and oily in summer.

2) Oily skin type in the T area of the face and dry in other areas: It is oily in the T-zone and dry in other areas.

Normal Skin: Sebum secretion is at basal level and the skin barrier is intact, water loss from the skin is normal.

  1. Sensitive or Resistant Skin

Resistant skin has a strong stratum corneum layer that protects the skin from allergens and other irritating agents. Redness is rare except in cases of sunburn.

The sensitive skin type consists of five different subtypes, sometimes combinations of these subtypes can also be found.

  1. Acne subtype
  2. Rosacea subtype
  3. İnflammatory subtype
  4. Allergic subtype
  5. Seborrheic subtype
  1. Pigmented or Non-Pigmented Skin

Solar lentigo (prominent circumscribed brown round spots), melasma ( a mask that usually appears after pregnancy or after hormonal changes dark discolouration with indistinct borders ) or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (acne, develops after conditions such as inflammatory diseases or wound healing dark colour changes) are observed in pigmented skin. People with this skin type can benefit from skin lightening agents are not good candidates for aggressive procedures (such as laser resurface)

  1. Smooth or Wrinkle-Prone Skin

This last parameter is the only feature that is affected by daily habits and environmental factors as well as genetic foundations. Although genetic structure cannot be changed, aging and wrinkles can be slowed down by avoiding factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol, lack of sleep, poor nutrition and sun exposure. 80% of facial aging is caused by sun exposure.
