What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a dermal biostimulator filler with a Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) structure used to reduce fine lines and deep wrinkles, increase skin firmness and provide skin rejuvenation.

What is Sculptra content?

Sculptra is an FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid structure that helps stimulate the skin’s natural collagen production. It creates an environment that helps support and protect the skin’s skeletal structure, which provides a younger appearance. Poly-L-lactic acid, which is injected under the skin, is absorbed within a few days after application and triggers collagen production in the skin.

What is Collagen?

Collagen is a protein that helps maintain the shape and structure of your skin, forming the skeletal structure of the skin. In our skin, collagen protein forms a three-dimensional matrix called the dermal collagen matrix. This matrix makes our skin look firm and young. Collagen is one of the most distinctive features of young and vibrant skin. When collagen is lost, the youthful appearance is also lost, causing the skin to become loose and saggy.

With age, the dermal collagen matrix breaks down and wears out, and therefore our skin can lose its firmness and shape as we age.

Skin needs a firm and strong collagen structure to resist signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging. Starting in our early 20s, approximately 1% of existing collagen is lost each year, and by the age of 40, most people lose approximately 20% of their natural collagen.

How Can You Notice If Your Skin Is Losing Collagen?

When you pinch your skin if it takes longer to return to its normal shape after pinching, if your skin feels looser, then the collagen content in your skin may have decreased.

What is the Difference Between Sculptra and Hyaluronic Acid Fillers?

Poly-L-lactic acid in Sculptra is an active ingredient that exhibits biostimulator properties. Thanks to this feature, it allows new collagen to be produced in the skin in the area where it is applied. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, the volume effect in the area where it is applied is minimal. It mostly provides an increase in skin quality.

When Do the Effects After Sculptra Start to Be Seen?

Poly-L-lactic acid is rapidly absorbed within a few days after the procedure and new collagen production begins to be stimulated. Sculptra application has been shown to increase type I collagen by up to 66.5% in three months.

Its effect is not an instant volume increase like filler treatment, but a gradual increase in collagen over several months. Since what increases is your own natural collagen production, Sculptra provides natural-looking results. It does not change your facial features.

How Long Does the Sculptra Effect Last?

The effects after Sculptra application have been shown to last up to 24 months.

Who Is Not A Good Candidate for Sculptra?

Sculptra is not suitable for people with a known history of allergic reactions to the active ingredients, people with active infections or open wounds in the application area, people with bleeding disorders, pregnant and breastfeeding women.

What Should Be Considered After Sculptra?

As with every injection, some unwanted side effects may be observed during Sculptra injection. The most dangerous of these unwanted side effects is intravenous injection.

What Are the Risks of Sculptra?

Although the risk of this occurring is very low, the results can be serious or permanent.

Visual impairment
Blindness
Stroke
Temporary crusting on the skin due to tissue nutrition disorders or
permanent scars.
