What is Chemical Peeling?

Chemical peeling is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures that has been used in dermatology for over a hundred years and still maintains its popularity thanks to its effective results. In chemical peeling treatment, the intercellular bonds are broken in a controlled manner in the upper layer of the skin and controlled peeling occurs on the skin. Cellular regeneration is stimulated. It is used for antiaging purposes, sun damage and wrinkle treatment, spot treatment.

In chemical peeling applications, solutions such as glycolic acid, trichloracetic acid, mandelic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, pyruvic acid, phytic acid, resorcinol, azeleic acid are applied in different concentrations according to the problem to be treated and skin characteristics.

The depth of the chemical peeling to be applied is divided into three groups as superficial, medium and deep peeling. Deep peeling is usually applied under operating room conditions – under anesthesia sedation. Today, superficial and medium-depth chemical peeling treatments are most commonly applied.

How Often and How Many Sessions Is Chemical Peeling Applied?

The frequency of application and the number of sessions are determined after the examination according to the needs of the person. Generally, an average of 4 sessions are applied with an interval of 1-2 weeks. Afterwards, it may be useful to be repeated at certain wider intervals for the continuity of the results obtained.

Aggressive movements such as waxing, rope epilation, scrubbing, scratching with nails, plucking, and peeling should be avoided during this period.

Superficial deep peeling procedures can be performed in all seasons with very good sun protection, while medium and deep chemical peeling applications are usually applied in spring and winter.
