Ingrown Toenail Treatment

In the treatment of ingrown toenails, it is aimed to ensure that the nail grows straight without being buried in the skin. For this purpose, it may be necessary to cut the toenails straight, to massage the skin on the sides of the nail regularly outward, sometimes to put sterile cotton under the nail, and to apply wire in the presence of pincer nail shape.

What Causes Ingrown Nail?

The problem of ingrown toenails usually occurs on the basis of structural features of the nail and finger structure. Incorrect nail cutting, shaping or wearing shoes with tight toes habits can lead to ingrown toenails. Painful swellings, sometimes with oozing sores, can cause problems severe enough to limit even daily movements.

When the nail grows sideways and into the skin, it stimulates the presence of a foreign body under the skin and triggers a reaction. Most of the time, the part of the nail that grows in must be completely removed.

Is Ingrown Nail Treatment Painful?

The treatment is performed under local anesthesia, the application is almost completely painless after the nerve block. The average procedure time is 15-20 minutes. It is followed with a closed dressing for about 1 week. Recovery is completed after about 3-4 weeks. Individual differences can be seen in the treatment process.
