Molluscum

Molluscum is a contagious skin disease that can be seen frequently in children aged 10 years. Molluscum infection appeat on the skin as tiny, raised, skin-coloured wheals with a slight dimple in the middle.

You can get molluscum virus at any age, but it is most common in children aged 1 to 10 years. Children with atopic dermatitis (often called eczema) are more prone to molluscum infection.

How is molluscum transmitted?

  • Direct skin contact with another person with molluscum infection
  • Using unwashed towels, sports – yoga – pilates or sunbed cushions used by someone with a molluscum infection
  • It can be transmitted through the use of clothing or sports equipment of someone with a molluscum infection.
