Vitiligo
Although the exact cause of vitiligo is not known exactly, there are some factors thought to be effective in the formation of the disease. It has been shown that in vitiligo, melanocytes, which produce the melanin pigment that gives color to the skin are destroyed by the effect of immune system cells.



What is Vitiligo?
Vitiligo causes the skin to lose its natural colour and become lighter is a skin disease in which coloured skin patches appear. In some people, it appears only in a few small areas, some people may have a much more widespread loss of skin colour.
Vitiligo can also affect other parts of the body. Some parts of the hair may turn white. Some people may lose colour in the inside of their mouth. Some of the eye colour may be lost.
Why does vitiligo occur?
The mysteries of what causes this loss of color have not yet been clarified. So far, it has been shown that there are genetic factors that play a role in the effects of our own immune system. In vitiligo, it has been shown that melanocytes, which produce the pigment melanin that gives color to the skin, are destroyed by immune system cells.

What are the Causes of Vitiligo Disease?
Although the exact cause of vitiligo is not known exactly, there are some factors that are thought to be effective in the occurrence of the disease:
- Autoimmune Diseases: The immune system destroying melanocytes ( pigment-producing cells).
- Genetic Factors: The risk of the disease is higher in people with a family history of vitiligo.
- Stress and Traumas: Physical or emotional stress can trigger the onset or progression of the disease.
- Some Diseases: Diabetes, autoimmune thyroid diseases (goitre), anaemia (anaemia) and psoriasis may be associated with vitiligo.
- Sunburns and skin injuries: Sunburns or trauma to the skin can contribute to the formation of vitiligo.
