How to Fix Large Pore Problem?

How to Fix Large Pore Problem?

Everyone wants to have more or less smooth, perfect skin. One of the problems that worry our patients the most is enlarged pores. The size of our pores is basically determined by our genetic codes, and although it is not possible to completely eliminate pores, there are products and treatments that can help reduce the size of our pores and hide their appearance.

Why Do Pores Enlarge?

Aging skin loses its elasticity and the connective tissue around it, which keeps the pores at a certain size, begins to decrease and loosen. The pore expands and as a result, the size of the pore increases, and our dream of having a smooth skin like a baby unfortunately decreases a little more every day. Another reason for the enlargement of our pores is the accumulation of dead cells on the pore walls. This can be caused by acne problems or cells trapped inside the pore.

What Can You Do to Tighten Pores?

  • You should always cleanse your skin daily and use products that gently remove dead cells from the skin surface.
  • In everyday life, you should prefer “non-comedogenic” moisturizers and sunscreens.
  • You can use active ingredients that help remove dead cells, which we call exfoliators. For example, salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that dissolves dead cells and oil residues in the pores. Glycolic acid, on the other hand, performs microfoliation (exfoliation) on the skin surface, peeling off dead tissues to reveal fresher, vibrant tissues with high water retention capacity. Mandelic acid is an exfoliator that can also be used on sensitive skin.
  • Retinoids, active ingredients derived from vitamin A, stimulate cell regeneration, help balance sebum and gently exfoliate the skin to remove dead cells.
  • Clay masks, which can be applied 1-2 times a week, help to clean the pores and provide a matte appearance by trapping excess sebum that causes shine and oily appearance, especially on oily skin.
  • Avoid using harsh products, such as those that use sticky strips that break down dead skin cells and products that scrub and cleanse the skin too often.
