How to Treat Genital Area Darkening?

This procedure, popularly known as “vaginal bleaching”, “genital bleaching”, “ vulva bleaching” or “genital bleaching”, is the treatment of dark discoloration of the skin that can be seen in the vulva, groin and anus. During this treatment, the vaginal area is not treated. It aims to reduce the darkness of the skin.

After the examination, conditions that may cause darkening of the genital area are detected; it can be treated with treatment methods appropriate to the underlying cause.

What are the causes of intimal darkening?

Age: Loss of elasticity, wrinkles and dark color changes can be seen in the skin of the genital area with natural aging processes.
Hormonal changes: An increase in the hormone estrogen can cause darkening of the color in the genital area, especially during periods such as pregnancy.
Frequent shaving: Irritation of the skin during frequent shaving can cause post-inflammatory discoloration called "post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation" during healing.
Hair follicle inflammation after waxing: Plucking the hair follicle and leaving it open facilitates the appearance of hair follicle inflammation called "folliculitis" in the genital area, which has a very rich bacterial flora. During the healing process of this inflammatory condition, "post inflammatory hyperpigmentation" may develop, especially in darker skinned people.
Friction: Intense sports, scratching, preference of tight clothes such as leggings, skinny jeans, sexual intercourse, etc. can cause thickening and dark discoloration of the skin.
Synthetic airtight underwear: Synthetic underwear preferred over cotton underwear creates a moist environment in the genital area. In a humid environment, the solubility of chemicals may increase infections, especially fungal infections, and disrupt the skin protective barrier. These conditions may cause dark discoloration.
Use of scented and irritating cosmetics: This can lead to eczema on the skin, which can cause "post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation" or dark discoloration due to increased itching and friction.
Insulin resistance: People with diabetes or insulin resistance may develop a velvet-like thickening and dark discoloration of the skin surface in the genital area and other folds called "Acanthosis Nigricans". Especially in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, the possibility of developing insulin resistance increases. For these reasons, necessary blood tests should be evaluated in cases with acanthosis nigricans appearance.
Obesity Obesity may cause dark discoloration in the genital area with increased friction as well as insulin resistance.
Some skin diseases (lichen planus, fixed drug eruption), some benign skin lesions (vulvar melanosis, lentigo, nevus, seborrheic keratosis, angioma, angiokeratoma, etc.) and skin cancers (melanoma, vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia, pigmented basal cell carcinoma, etc.) can cause dark discoloration in the genital area.
