What are the Points to Consider in Scabies Treatment?

What are the Points to Consider in Scabies Treatment?

One of the most frequently asked questions recently is Scabies Treatment!

Scabies is a skin disease characterized by severe itching that increases at night.

Because it is contagious, when left untreated, it continues to spread and cause disease.

How Many Days Does Scabies Treatment Take?

Treatment of scabies parasites takes an average of 10-14 days. The drugs used work by destroying the parasites that have hatched from the eggs. Therefore, after the hatching phase, which lasts approximately 7-10 days, the treatment applied must be repeated once more.

Why might scabies not go away?

If the 3 points to be considered during treatment are missed, the treatment may result in failure and itching may continue.

The first is home treatment. The disease is transmitted through long-term close contact, and the long incubation period causes no symptoms to be seen for approximately 3 weeks after the parasite is infected. In other words, the disease continues to be contagious silently, so when 1 person in the house is diagnosed, every person in the house should be treated.

The second is the correct use of medications. For the treatment to be effective, it is important to use the medications correctly and in appropriate doses. Make sure you use the medications as prescribed by your doctor. Medications used during the treatment period can sometimes cause irritation, which can lead to itching and the disease may be thought to continue. Using medications more than necessary for fear of getting treatment quickly can increase this irritation and itching.

Thirdly, all recently used clothes, sheets and duvet covers should be washed and ironed at least at 60 degrees Celsius, and if they cannot be washed, they should be kept closed in a bag for a week. Otherwise, the disease can be transmitted again through clothes.

Does Itching Continue After Scabies Treatment?

After effective treatment, itching is expected to decrease rapidly and to a great extent. Changes such as irritation and dermatitis that develop on the skin after a long illness may cause itching to continue for a long time even if the scabies is effectively eliminated. If there is no change in the intensity of itching after treatment, a detailed dermatology examination must be performed again. Sometimes the body’s immune response to the scabies parasite may last longer than it should, and in this case, itching may continue even though the scabies has healed. In such cases, the doctor will follow a different treatment path than eliminating the parasite.
