Filler Treatments

When filler applications first started to be performed, substances such as permanent silicones and bovine collagen with a high risk of allergic reactions were used. Today, the most commonly used substance in filler treatments is hyaluronic acid.

Over time, some changes begin to appear on our skin. With the loosening and loss of water in our connective tissues, the decrease in bone tissues and the effect of gravity, sagging occurs in the cheek, chin and neck area and our wrinkles become prominent. Fillers are used to replace the volume loss that occurs with aging and time, to provide volume or clarity to an area. It is an excellent treatment option for those who want to eliminate the signs of aging by minimizing the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles to achieve a youthful appearance.

What is Filler?

When filler injections first started to be performed, substances such as permanent silicones and bovine collagen with a high risk of allergic reactions were used. Today, the most commonly used substance in filling applications is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that is normally found in our skin structure and can hold water 1000-10,000 times its volume.

Do Fillers Cause Allergic Reactions?

Since it is a molecule that also exists in our own connective tissue, the development of an allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid is not expected. While preparing filler materials, hyaluronic acid molecules are brought together with special binding technologies. Hyaluronic acid fillers are produced under laboratory conditions in sterile environments and are not of animal origin.

What Does Fillers Do?

We apply this substance, which has a consistency like ultrasound gel, to the areas where we want to provide volume, clarity or contour in filler treatments. Its water-retaining feature makes the skin look more moist and radiant in superficial applications, and provides volume and clarity in facial contours in deep applications.

How is Filler Applied?

What is the Duration of Filling Effect?

Fillers spontaneously dissolve and disappear within 8-18 months on average, depending on the properties of the molecules and the dynamic structure of the area where they are applied.

How to Dissolve the Filler?

When the result of the filler is not cosmetically satisfactory or when the filling causes circulatory problems, the enzyme “hyaluronidase” is applied and the bonds holding the hyaluronic acid molecules together are broken down and the filler is dissolved.

Is Filler Injection Painful?

Filler injection is not a very painful procedure. For this reason, anesthesia is not required most of the time before the procedure, but in some special and sensitive areas, numbing creams are applied before the procedure and waited for 15-20 minutes. If the patient’s pain threshold is low before the application of very sensitive areas such as lips, intraoral needle anesthesia (dental anesthesia) can be applied. Since mouth movements may also be affected after dental anesthesia, it is normal for lip movements to appear asymmetrical for 1-2 hours after the procedure. It is recommended not to consume hot food and beverages during this 1-2 hour period.

When will the filler effect be seen?

The effects are seen as soon as the procedure is performed. Some skins may have a slight swelling and temporary bruises after the application, and the filler retains a little more water after the procedure. Lip augmentation may cause crusting, cracks and a feeling of tension on the lips due to the increased volume. The use of white Vaseline or lip balms is recommended during this period. A follow-up examination is usually performed after 2 weeks

What Should Be Considered Before and After Filler Injection?

The procedure should be performed when the general condition of the person is healthy. Anticoagulating medications (such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), vitamins such as coenzymeQ, vitamin E and green tea should not be drunk before the procedure.

The use of anticoagulants may increase the risk of developing problems such as swelling and bruising during and after the application. You should share the presence of these conditions with your doctor.

The treated areas should avoid contact with water for at least four hours. It is recommended not to enter the sea or pool for the first 24 hours. You should not be in environments such as sauna-bath for 2 weeks after the procedure. Unless recommended by your doctor, the treated area should not be massaged too much. Drink plenty of water.

Does Filler Injection Cause Herpes?

You should inform your doctor if you have a history of herpes. Especially after lip filler application, new herpes attacks may be observed in people who have had herpes before. Your doctor will recommend preventive treatments that will help you overcome the attack faster.

How Long Do The Effects Last After Filler? How Many Months Does Filler Effect Last?

The effects after filler application may continue for an average of 8-18 months depending on the molecular binding structure of the applied filler and the characteristics of the applied area. While the effects may last as long as 18-24 months after applications to immobile areas such as on the bone, this period may decrease up to 6-8 months in areas such as the lips that are very mobile and under the effect of friction. Regular and combined applications with other procedures can prolong the permanence period of the filler.
